Parking Reminder

This is a reminder. Sunday, October 15, is the Jewish holiday Simchat Torah. Beth Zion Beth Israel’s services coincide with our morning services. Their parking permission also overlaps ours. We ask our attenders to avoid parking on the 1800 block of Spruce or on 18th Street from Rittenhouse to Pine.

Our courtesy last time, by the way, did not go unnoticed. We received a very nice thank you from the congregation.

Curtis Recital

Paul Jones hosts a weekly Bible study for Curtis students (and others who like to join in) every Saturday, usually at 1:30. Harrison Hollingsworth coordinates the meetings. He is sending out notices when Bible study members give recitals at the school, which are free and open to the public. (Thanks to the person who sent in a comment.) Here is the first notice.

Sarah Shafer (freshman vocalist) will be singing on a recital in Field Concert Hall at Curtis on October 20, 8:00 p.m. She will sing arias by Gluck and Berger, and a duet from Mozart's Don Giovanni (La ci darem la mano).

Fire Escape

The nursery department completed a very successful fire drill last Sunday. The children enjoyed their ride in our evacuation cribs as we quickly moved them from the nursery area, down the ramp, and to their meeting place. If you are a nursery worker, come to the nursery training on Sunday, Oct. 29, for a review of evacuation procedures. The presentation will include lessons learned from our practice drills!

Think 'Kingdomly' About Your Neighborhood

This Friday at 7 pm, Tenth Women will host the first of a three-part series on Living as Kingdom-minded Disciples. Our speaker will be Barb Weidman, who has been serving with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship in Philadelphia for nearly 20 years. Barb will speak on Kingdom-minded discipleship in your neighborhood.

Barb's heart for Kingdom ministry in neighborhoods led to a recent change of focus in her work, as she has joined a team pioneering a new ministry at Temple University. The vision for this new work is to reach students not being reached by other existing ministries and to involve students in the life and ministry of the adjacent neighborhood. Barb sees this aspect of the ministry as critical to a whole Gospel discipleship for believing students and as a relevant onramp to the Gospel for unbelieving students who are concerned about poverty and injustice.

Join us for a night of thinking 'Kingdomly' - 7 pm in Fellowship Hall.

Computer Services

I'm a Drexel student graduating within the year, having been studying Management Information Systems, and had been working part time at one of my previous co-ops for a couple years now to make ends meet. Recently, however, my hours have been cut, and I decided I would go back to doing what I used to do before coming to Philadelphia: IT consulting and computer help for individuals and small businesses. I can do everything from setting up a new computer, or ridding it of spyware, adware, and viruses, to more complex stuff like implementing VPNs, doing security audits, and co-ordinating infrastructure upgrades. My rates are pretty competitive, and I would really enjoy the opportunity to get to know other Tenth members as I get them up and running. Anyone interested, or who would like to see my résumé, can send me an e-mail at jrm52@drexel.edu. Alternately, you can hunt for the crowd of tall Drexel guys on Sunday morning and ask for the one who knows about computers :-)

Mike Waltz sent this need in to be posted:

I coordinate meals for Fellowship Bible Study. My need is for people to assist with meals for Fellowship Bible, a ministry of Tenth Church for the poor & homeless. The study meets the 1st, 3rd, 4th & 5th Sundays. My need is to have about 4 or 5 people prepare, set-up tables & serve a meal for the Bible Study. The meal is served at 5:30pm. Those preparing would need to be available at least by 3pm or 4pm depending on prep time. Please contact me at mwaltz@acninc.net or 877.711.9489.

Babysitter Needed

Jon and Wendy McCarthy are looking for a babysitter/nanny to watch our 2-year-old for 2 mornings a week (8-10 hours per week total) for Nov - Jan. A college student or mom with similar aged kids would be great. They live about 7 blocks south of the church. It could be in their home or yours if you are conveniently located and toddler safe. Pay is $10 per hour. Email at molluscgirl@hotmail.com if interested.

Typing Therapy

Have returned from therapy on my hand. There are two people you do not want having a bad day - your hair cutter and your physical therapist. Fortunately my therapist has been having good days and keeping the pain low. The left hand is improving. I am actually typing with it now.
